Belatedly {December}

Reading: I'm continuing the Bill Slider series by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (I'm up to #9) and I'm rereading the Harry Potter series.

I'm also participating in my library's Winter Book Bingo:

Watching: The Great American Baking Show!  I miss Sue and Mel, but it's fun to see Mary Berry and all the bakers.

Anticipating: Seeing my family at Christmas!

Knitting: I changed my mind about the GG cowl and decided to knit Rivers Wrap instead. I didn't like the look of the orange and green together,

so a friend suggested I replace Paprika with Old Gold. I'll see how it looks then report back.

Reading: When I was in high school I plowed through books by Mary Stewart, Phyllis A. Whitney and Victoria Holt. I got out an old favorite to re-read over the holiday weekend.

To balance that, I'm reading a mystery about a British forensic anthropologist.

Knitting: I started a couple of smaller projects because my FIL recently moved here and is a skilled nursing facility, so I needed something a little more portable.

A cowl with some beautiful yarn I received in a Ravelry Swap:

And a scarf:

And I'm joining in a Gilmore Girls MKAL cowl/scarf. Since the kit was already sold out, I ordered Miss Babs yarn Heartland in Dusk, Paprika, Moss and Chocolate:

Anticipating: Reading, knitting, eating and relaxing over the holiday weekend!

Watching:  The Crown on Netflix

Reading: Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner. I came across this book in one of the mystery newsletters I get and so far it's really good! It's about a graduate student at Cambridge University who has been missing from her home for almost 24 hours. Her home offers few clues - a smattering of blood, front door ajar but no sign of forced entry, phone and keys are left behind. The main character is a member of the Cambridgeshire police force and knows the case could make her career.

I'm also reading a book by another British author Jenny Colgan:  The Little Shop of Happily Ever After (UK title) /The Bookshop Around the Corner (US title). It's about a woman, who after getting let go from the library because it closed, decides to buy a van in Scotland and transform it into a mobile bookshop.

Knitting: I have ~6 more rows on Edison - SO close! I hope to finish it this weekend.

And I have ~30 more rows on Apsara.

Anticipating: A trip to Ridgecrest, NC October 7th - 9th for a Marriage Retreat.

Watching: New Fall shows! I haven't decided if I like any of the new ones enough yet to watch all season, but a couple look promising.

Sewing: Adding sashing to the blocks

Reading: The latest Louise Penny A Great Reckoning. I didn't care for her previous books, so was unsure about reading another one, but I decided to give her newest book a try and I'm so glad I did. This book reminds me of her previous books and is hard to put down!

Knitting: Trying to finish two shawls I have on the needles, so I can go back to a project I started last year with fall colors!

Anticipating: A trip to Myrtle Beach later this month with my family and a coworker's wedding in Charleston, SC.

Watching: College Football!

Sewing: Finally got started on my fat eight quilt:

Reading:

1. The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. A couple of friends recommended this book. It's essentially Prince William and Kate Middleton fan fiction but it if you love royals, it's a fun read. This is my pick for a book about royals (F or NF) square for my BOTN Summer Bingo Card.

2. Also for Summer Bingo, Priceless by Robert Wittman is my pick for the art square. It's also the book my online book club chose so that worked out well. It's non-fiction that reads like fiction and so far it's really interesting.

3. And for my historical fiction square, I chose Follow the River by James Alexander Thom. It's about Mary Ingles and has been on my TBR list for years. I just started it and it's a bit gruesome but fascinating as well.

Watching: Not quite yet but soon - the Summer Olympics!

Anticipating: A trip to see my family later this month!

Knitting: I'm going to attempt to make the Three Color Cowl (with 4 colors) for the Ravellenic Games. The yarn is Fibre Company Canopy Fingering in Sarsparilla, Laguna, Orchid and Wild Ginger.

Quilting:
I cut the pieces out for this quilt pattern using my fat eighth bundle, so now I just need to find time to sew!

My Life in Pictures - Week 29

I'm participating in a Ravely Summer Swap and I got 2 packages!  One came from Etsy but I am standing strong and not peeking at the seller's site. We don't open them until August 22nd though or until everyone gets theirs.

Google maps Street View car sighting on the way to work!

My husband hid a card for me in our tea cabinet. He usually gives me one on the 18th of every month (the date we were married in February) and the number on it is how many months we've been married. He's very creative!

During a storm on Friday afternoon, a tree near our house fell and crashed into our oak tree! We lost power for ~9 hours and some limbs on our tree, but thankfully our house and deck were ok, as were we.

My Life in Pictures - Week 28

More books!

Most of the pages are done and all the fabric is cut.

Old and new Volvos side by side. We're keeping the old one (1990) too. What a difference 26 years makes!

My Life in Pictures - Week 27

July 4th blueberry cobbler with strawberries and ice cream!

Plugging along on my knitting.

I'm finally getting around to putting cards and photos from our wedding (in 2012!) into a scrapbook.

Ready to cut fabric for my next quilt!
